Larry Russell is the son of new-money titans Bertha and George Russell, raised in the shadow of his mother's social ambitions but far less interested in climbing than she is. He's easygoing, good-humored, and quietly drawn to Marian Brook, the impoverished niece next door his mother would never approve of.

He's the Gilded Age's most likable rich boy precisely because the show lets him want ordinary things—love, purpose, his own architectural career—inside a family built on spectacle. Harry Richardson plays him with an easy warmth that never curdles into blandness, giving the Russells' gilded house one person who seems genuinely unbothered by gold.
