Lady Cowper

Lady Cowper presides over her household with the brittle ambition of a woman determined to see her family climb the social ladder, whatever the cost to dignity or truth. Sharp-tongued and status-obsessed, she pushes her daughter forward at every ball and treats reputation as the only currency worth having.

Joanna Bobin plays her with a comic edge that never fully curdles into cartoon villainy — there's real anxiety underneath the snobbery, the fear of a woman whose social position is thinner than her airs suggest. She's the sort of minor antagonist Bridgerton does well: petty, functional, and quietly telling about the era's marriage market.
