Lacey

Lacey lives across the street from the Blanchards and takes an easy, unquestioning liking to Gypsy, the sweet, wide-eyed girl in the wheelchair with all the medical equipment. She's an ordinary teenager — friendly, a little nosy, drawn to Gypsy's warmth — and has no idea yet how carefully everything about her new friend's life has been arranged.

Lacey exists to be normal, and that's exactly what makes her useful: she's the show's yardstick for how strange the Blanchard household really is. AnnaSophia Robb plays her with unforced, open-faced kindness, so that her small confusions and casual questions land as the audience's own — she notices what shouldn't add up before she understands why.
