Kim Bodnia plays him with a rumpled, almost paternal warmth that keeps undercutting how dangerous he actually is, and the show uses that contradiction beautifully. He scolds Villanelle like a disappointed father one moment and calmly discusses murder the next, and Bodnia never lets either register cancel out the other.
