Kingsley arrives at university awkward, well-meaning and quietly desperate to reinvent himself away from his overbearing family. He's the nice one among his new housemates, prone to overthinking, easily embarrassed, and nursing a hopeless crush he can barely admit to himself. He wants to be liked, to seem cool, and mostly fails at both.

Joe Thomas plays a familiar type — the anxious, decent lad out of his depth — but sharpens it with real specificity: the flop-sweat panic, the compulsive self-sabotage, the way politeness curdles into cringe. The writing lets him be pathetic without contempt, so his fumbling toward adulthood stays funny and oddly touching.
