King Hywel

Hywel rules a Welsh kingdom that has to survive in the shadow of larger, hungrier Saxon and Danish powers, and he meets that reality with his wits rather than his sword. He is courteous, calculating, and quick to size up which alliance keeps his people alive, treating every negotiation as a chance to bargain his way to safety.

Steffan Rhodri gives Hywel a dry, unhurried composure that stands out amid a cast of warriors, making him feel like the one man in the room actually thinking three moves ahead. The writing uses him to needle at the show's usual honour-and-bloodshed logic, and his scenes crackle because he treats politics as the real battlefield.
