Kiminobu Kogure

Kogure is Shohoku's bespectacled vice-captain, a steady third-year who has played alongside Akagi since middle school. He is not the flashiest player on the court, but he is the one who keeps everyone honest, patiently explaining the rules of basketball to a certain red-headed novice and quietly holding the team together with his calm.

He is the sane, gentle center of a story full of hotheads, and that restraint is what makes him funny and touching in equal measure. Hideyuki Tanaka gives him a warmth that never curdles into blandness — Kogure's decency is active, not passive, and the show trusts him to be the audience's patient, delighted guide into the game itself.
