Kimblee

Zolf J. Kimblee first appears behind bars, a state alchemist imprisoned for mass slaughter during a past war, now sprung loose to serve murkier military interests. He is unfailingly polite, immaculately dressed, and speaks about destruction with the calm enthusiasm of a connoisseur, treating carnage as a subject worth savoring rather than something to hide.

The show refuses to make him a raving monster; instead he gets an actual aesthetic, a genuine argument for why annihilation fascinates him, delivered in unhurried, courteous cadences that never rise to a shout. Hiroyuki Yoshino keeps the voice pleasant and measured even at his most appalling, and that mismatch between tone and content is what makes him so hard to look away from.
