Zolf J. Kimblee first appears behind bars, a state alchemist imprisoned for mass slaughter during a past war, now sprung loose to serve murkier military interests. He is unfailingly polite, immaculately dressed, and speaks about destruction with the calm enthusiasm of a connoisseur, treating carnage as a subject worth savoring rather than something to hide.
The show refuses to make him a raving monster; instead he gets an actual aesthetic, a genuine argument for why annihilation fascinates him, delivered in unhurried, courteous cadences that never rise to a shout. Hiroyuki Yoshino keeps the voice pleasant and measured even at his most appalling, and that mismatch between tone and content is what makes him so hard to look away from.
Solf J. Kimblee (ゾルフ・J・キンブリー, Zorufu J Kinburī), spelt Zolf J. Kimbley in the 2003 anime and its related media, also known as the Crimson Lotus Alchemist (紅蓮の錬金術師, Guren no Renkinjutsushi) or simply the Crimson Alchemist, is a recurring antagonist in the Fullmetal Alchemist series. He is a former State Alchemist and special agent working under the direct orders of Führer King Bradley.
