Kevin Malone

Kevin is an accountant at Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch, though the job seems almost incidental to his real interests: food, gambling, and staying comfortable. He speaks slowly and simply, often to comic effect, and seems perpetually amused by his own low-stakes schemes. He wants an easy day, good snacks, and to be left alone by ambition.

The writing plays a trick on the audience: Kevin's simplicity reads as pure comic relief until moments reveal a sharper, sadder person underneath the slowness. Baumgartner commits fully to the deadpan, letting silences and mumbled non-sequiturs land as jokes, so that the rare flash of real feeling actually surprises you.
