Character

Kenneth Parcell

Kenneth Parcell in 30 Rock (2006), played by Jack McBrayer.

Kenneth is a page at NBC, fresh from Stone Mountain, Georgia, and radiantly happy to be there. He loves television with a devotion bordering on religious, addresses everyone with unshakable politeness, and seems constitutionally incapable of cynicism, sarcasm, or noticing when he's being mocked.

The joke could curdle into condescension, but Jack McBrayer plays Kenneth's sincerity so fully straight that it becomes its own kind of power — nothing the show's cynics throw at him lands. His blank, beaming decency turns him into a strange moral center, and the writers keep finding stranger, funnier corners of just how much he doesn't know.
