Kaywinnet Lee "Kaylee" Frye

Kaylee is Serenity's mechanic, a farm girl with a preternatural gift for engines and a joy in her work that never curdles into cynicism. She's found in the ship's guts, hands greasy, humming to herself, delighted by machinery and by people. Warm, unguarded, and openly affectionate, she wants closeness, pretty things, and a life that doesn't have to be hard.

She's the crew's emotional weather system, and the show uses her sunniness deliberately, letting her softness sit right next to smugglers and killers without ever seeming naive.
