Kathy Kone

Kathy Kone is Anna's mother, a suburban wife and parent whose marriage is quietly coming apart just as her daughter starts seventh grade. She moves through the house distracted, trying to keep ordinary routines going—dinner, rides, small talk—while clearly preoccupied by something bigger she isn't saying out loud yet.

Melora Walters plays the exhaustion of a woman performing normalcy so well that the cracks feel unbearably real rather than melodramatic. The show could easily have kept Kathy in the background as generic 'mom,' but her scenes carry genuine adult grief alongside the kids' comic chaos, and Walters never overplays it—she just lets the sadness sit in her face.
