Character

Karen White

Karen White in Broadchurch (2013), played by Vicky McClure.

Karen White arrives in Broadchurch as a national journalist, sharper and more press-savvy than the local reporters already circling the case. She's writing a book on the murder, professionally curious and quietly relentless, probing witnesses and investigators alike with a directness that unsettles a town still raw with grief.

McClure plays her with a coiled, watchful intelligence that never tips into caricature — you sense a real reporter's instincts under the ambition. The show uses her as an outside eye on a closed community, and McClure makes her scepticism feel earned rather than cynical, someone worth trusting even when no one around her does.

Karen White is a journalist for the Daily Herald who reported on both the Sandbrook and Broadchurch murders. She defied her boss, Len Danvers, and left her office to go to Broadchurch to report on the Broadchurch case, especially after hearing that DI Alec Hardy was in charge of the investigation. She was given a desk in the Broadchurch Echo thanks to Olly Stevens.
