Kamina

Kamina is a loudmouthed young man from an underground village, convinced the sky itself is a lie worth breaking through. He drags his timid friend Simon into a stolen mecha and a stolen destiny, all bravado and impossible confidence, declaring himself the man who will pierce the heavens whether or not he has any actual plan for how.

He's pure, uncomplicated audacity, and the show trusts that completely — his ridiculous swagger is never punctured by irony, it's the engine of the whole story. Konishi plays him at full volume, and that unshakable belief becomes contagious rather than obnoxious, which is exactly the trick a character like this has to pull off.
