Julius Caesar

Returning from Gaul with an army and a mountain of debt, Caesar is a general who has run out of patient options. He's charming, calculating, and tired of being condescended to by Rome's aristocracy. Family matters to him, old soldiers matter to him, and he's entirely willing to break the Republic to get what he's owed.

Hinds plays Caesar without any of the marble-statue grandeur the name usually invites — this is a weary, physical man who negotiates power the way he'd negotiate a market stall, all shrugging pragmatism until the moment the mask drops and you see the appetite underneath. It's a quietly frightening performance because it never asks to be liked, only understood.
