Joy is Tracey's mother, a devout Christian who runs her council flat like a small kingdom of rules and prayer. She polices her daughter's every move, convinced that sin lurks in short skirts and secular music, and reacts to Tracey's fumbling adulthood with alarm, scripture, and total certainty she is right.

Shola Adewusi plays Joy's piety completely straight, which is exactly what makes her funny — no wink to the audience, just unshakeable moral conviction colliding with her daughter's chaos. The writing never mocks her faith outright; it lets her rigidity and real love for Tracey sit uncomfortably close, so the laughs come with a strange tenderness underneath.
