Josie

Josie arrives at the shared house as a trainee dentist who thought she'd signed a lease with strangers her own age doing something respectable — instead she's landed among a chaotic crew of undergraduates. She's eager to be liked, a little prim, quietly anxious about fitting in, and hiding a relationship that complicates things from day one.

Nixon plays the ostensibly sensible one, which is the sitcom's best trick: Josie's composure keeps cracking into cringing, panicked honesty the moment she's embarrassed, and she's embarrassed constantly. The writing uses her outsider status — older, more responsible, desperate not to be — to needle at everyone else's pretensions, herself included.
