Josh Lyman

Josh Lyman is the Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House, a sharp-tongued political operator who talks fast, argues faster, and rarely doubts he's right. He's fiercely loyal to President Bartlet and the causes he believes in, prone to picking fights he can't always win, and allergic to admitting weakness.

Bradley Whitford plays him as a live wire, all restless energy and verbal jabs, which makes the moments when Josh's bravado cracks land that much harder. The show uses his cockiness as both comic engine and vulnerability, letting you see the anxious, wounded person underneath the wisecracks.
