Jonah Ryan

Jonah Ryan is the Vice President's tall, awkward White House liaison, forever a punching bag for the senior staff around him. He's ambitious and thin-skinned in equal measure, constantly overplaying his own importance and getting flattened for it, but never quite discouraged enough to stop trying.

Simons commits totally to Jonah's specific brand of gormlessness, physical and verbal, so the character becomes a barometer for how badly a room is going. The writing gives him just enough self-awareness to know he's disrespected, which makes his relentless, doomed self-promotion funnier than simple stupidity ever could.
