Jon

Jon is one of the background players drifting through the film and TV sets where Extras spends its days, part of the shuffling crowd of hopefuls waiting for a stray line or a moment of notice. He fills space between takes with small talk and small grievances, another face hoping to be seen.

The show's comedy lives in exactly this kind of person: overlooked, faintly delusional about their prospects, and funniest when treated with total seriousness. Steve Jackson plays Jon with the deadpan, unhurried naturalism the series demands, letting the humor come from behavior rather than jokes, which is the whole trick of Extras.
