Character
Johnny Rose
Johnny Rose in Schitt's Creek (2015), played by Eugene Levy.
Once a video-rental fortune's self-made king, Johnny Rose now finds himself broke and exiled to a flea-bitten motel in the town he bought as a joke gift years ago. He clings to pressed suits, business-speak and stubborn optimism, determined to hold his family together and claw back some semblance of dignity and order.
Levy plays Johnny as the show's ballast, a man whose bewildered decency keeps him funny rather than pathetic. The comedy comes from watching a lifelong dealmaker try to negotiate his way out of a situation with no leverage left, while his exasperated eyebrows do half the work his dialogue doesn't need to.
Jonathan Michael Rose (primarily referred to as Johnny) is the rational patriarch of the Rose family, and a businessman who invests his time helping run the town motel. He is a main character on Schitt's Creek.
