Joey is an aspiring actor sharing a New York apartment with Chandler, forever scraping by on auditions, soap-opera bit parts, and free food from friends. He's dim about most things except women, whom he pursues with earnest, uncomplicated enthusiasm. Loyal to a fault, he treats his friend group like family and never has a mean thought about anyone in it.

The writing could have made Joey a one-joke lothario, but LeBlanc plays every dumb line with total sincerity, which is funnier than sarcasm ever could be. His genuine sweetness — the food possessiveness, the childlike joy, the fierce protectiveness of his friends — keeps him lovable even at his most clueless.
