Jennifer "Jen" Lindley

Jen arrives in Capeside as the new girl from New York, moving in with her grandmother under a cloud of unspoken trouble. She's worldly and a little world-weary next to the town's sheltered teenagers, quick with a sharp, self-protective wit, and drawn almost immediately into Dawson's orbit as the outsider who complicates everything he thought he knew about himself.

The show first plays Jen as the sophisticated corrupter of small-town innocence, then patiently undoes that reading, and Michelle Williams makes the reversal feel earned rather than written. She finds the ache under Jen's brittleness early, so that even her breeziest lines carry a flicker of something guarded and sad.
