Javier Peña

Javier Peña is a DEA agent working the Bogotá station, paired with Steve Murphy in the hunt for Pablo Escobar. He's the more seasoned of the two, comfortable with Colombia's back channels, its bars, and its compromises. Charming and unhurried, he gets results by knowing which rules bend and which men can be bought.

Pascal plays him with a coiled, watchful calm that never oversells the danger around him, which makes the danger land harder. Peña isn't the moral center of the show, and the writing doesn't pretend he is — he's a professional in an impossible war, and Pascal lets his compromises show without ever begging you to forgive them.
