Janice Soprano

Janice is Tony's older sister, back in New Jersey after years drifting around the country reinventing herself under names like Parvati. She arrives trailing yoga talk, self-help jargon, and a wide, needy smile, angling almost immediately for a piece of their dying mother's house and money. Warmth and menace sit right next to each other in her.

Turturro plays her as pure appetite dressed up in therapeutic language, and the show never lets you settle on whether she's a con artist or just the family's damage wearing tie-dye. Every scene she's in tilts between comedy and dread, because you can feel Tony's own worst instincts staring back at him.
