Janet Kim

Janet Kim is a twentysomething photography student trying to build an independent creative life while still living above her family's Toronto convenience store. She's sharp-tongued and exasperated with her old-fashioned father Appa, caught between loyalty to her parents and the pull to be seen as her own person rather than the store's unpaid help.

Andrea Bang gives Janet a deadpan patience that makes her the show's clearest eyes — rolling them at her father's stubbornness without ever losing warmth for him. The writing uses her as the bridge between generations, and Bang plays that tension lightly, finding real comedy in a daughter who loves her family and still wants out from under them.
