James "Toofer" Spurlock

Toofer is one of the writers on TGS with Tracy Jordan, a Harvard graduate who introduced himself with the nickname referencing the fact that hiring him satisfied two diversity boxes at once. He's dry, superior, and quick to note the double meaning or double standard in whatever's happening around him.

The joke is that Toofer is smarter than everyone in the room and still stuck writing sketches about a lunatic movie star, and Keith Powell plays that indignity with such flat, weary precision that his eye-rolls become punchlines in themselves. He's the writers' room's built-in irony detector.
