James "Jimmy" Darmody

A young war veteran back in Atlantic City, Jimmy works as a driver and fixer for Nucky Thompson, the county treasurer he once idolized. Sharp, restless, and unable to settle into any role he's handed, he watches the older men run the town and wants more than errands. Something in him has already curdled from what he saw overseas.

Michael Pitt plays Jimmy as a live wire under a placid surface, all coiled ambition and buried trauma waiting for a reason to surface. The writing gives him a real education and a war behind his eyes, so his hunger for power feels earned rather than petty, and every quiet scene carries a threat of violence.
