Jaleesa Vinson Taylor

Jaleesa arrives at Hillman College a few years older than her dorm mates, already divorced and done with foolishness. She rooms with the much younger Denise Huxtable, rolling her eyes at freshman drama while quietly figuring out who she wants to be now that she's starting over. Sharp, dry, unimpressed by nonsense.

Dawnn Lewis plays maturity without making it dull — Jaleesa's world-weariness is funny precisely because she's still working things out herself. She's the show's steadying older-sister presence, and Lewis gives her a wit dry enough to cut through the campus melodrama while never losing warmth underneath the sarcasm.
