Jack Stone

Jack Stone is a rumpled, low-rent defense attorney who chases cases outside courthouses and precincts, scraping together a living one client at a time. He stumbles into representing a bewildered young man accused of murder almost by accident, taking the case less from idealism than from need — and slowly finding he wants to do right by it.

Turturro plays him itchy, literal — the eczema on his hands and feet becomes shorthand for a man uncomfortable in his own skin, unglamorous and unheroic. The writing refuses to dress him up as a crusading lawyer; he's tired, financially strapped, morally muddled, and that unpolished ordinariness is precisely what makes his eventual diligence so quietly moving.
