He proposes partnership and expansion, speaks in reasonable tones, and treats politics as simply another kind of enterprise. Confident and unhurried, he seems, at first, like just another useful ally.

Frecheville plays him with a flat, affable calm that never tips into obvious villainy, which is precisely what makes him unsettling — you sense the ideology underneath before the show ever states it plainly. Against the Shelbys' volatility, his stillness reads as something colder and more dangerous: menace with perfect manners.
