Jack Marshall

Jack Marshall keeps the newsagent's in Broadchurch, a familiar, unassuming presence who's sold sweets to half the town's children over the years. Friendly with the murdered boy and his family, he seems like just another local fixture — until the investigation starts turning up questions about his past that he'd rather not answer.

David Bradley plays him as ordinary kindness under strain, and the writing never tells you whether that strain means guilt or grief. As Broadchurch's community turns suspicious eyes on its own, Bradley makes Jack a quiet study in what suspicion does to a person — sympathetic, evasive, and impossible to read cleanly.
