Jack Arnold

Jack Arnold is Kevin's father, a gruff, hardworking man who comes home from a management job he clearly does not love and wants quiet, respect, and dinner on the table. He is not a talker. Affection comes out sideways, through gruffness and the occasional silence that says more than words would.

Dan Lauria plays him as a wall of exhaustion and buried feeling, and the show trusts him to communicate entirely through posture and pauses. The writing rarely explains Jack; it just shows him working, sighing, occasionally cracking, and lets the audience do the reading he can't do himself.
