Ichiro Miyata

Ichiro Miyata is a boxing prodigy, quietly arrogant and immaculately trained, who crosses paths with Ippo Makunouchi as a rival almost from the moment gloves are laced. He is precise, cold in the ring, and carries himself like someone who has never doubted his own talent — until Ippo starts making him look twice.

Miyata could easily be a stock rival, but the writing gives him real technique and real pride, not just antagonism, and Tomokazu Seki plays him with a clipped, controlled voice that cracks just slightly when Ippo gets under his skin. He works because his skill is never in question — only what he does with the discomfort of being pushed.
