Ian Murray

Ian Murray is Jamie Fraser's oldest friend and the steady, weathered farmer of Lallybroch, married to Jamie's sister Jenny. He meets the world with quiet loyalty rather than swagger, working the land, keeping the household running, and standing beside Jamie without needing credit for it. He's practical, wry, and entirely unglamorous by design.

Steven Cree plays him with a lovely lack of vanity, letting Ian be the friend who never competes for the spotlight and is all the more solid for it. The writing trusts stillness here — his devotion to Jenny and loyalty to Jamie do the talking, and Cree's dry warmth makes an ordinary decent man feel like the emotional ballast of the whole household.
