Hugo "Hurley" Reyes

Hurley is one of the survivors of Oceanic 815, a big-hearted guy stumbling into a nightmare with an odd mix of dread and dark humor. Convinced his life is cursed by numbers and bad luck, he keeps trying to help the others while quietly hoping this island might, for once, break his pattern of losses.

Garcia plays the show's conscience without ever preaching: he's funny, self-deprecating, and disarmingly honest about being scared. Against a cast of liars and schemers, Hurley's plain decency and jokes at his own expense make him the audience's way in — the one castaway who says out loud what everyone else is thinking.
