Howard Borden

Howard is Bob and Emily's next-door neighbor, an airline navigator who wanders into their apartment as if he lives there, too, often over dinner or in the middle of a conversation. He's guileless and a little dense, given to earnest non sequiturs and an oddly clingy fondness for Bob's company. He means no harm; boundaries just don't occur to him.

Daily plays him with total sincerity, which is the joke: Howard never registers how strange his intrusions are, so the strangeness lands purely through Bob's weary patience. The writing keeps his logic internally consistent, however skewed, so his non sequiturs feel like a genuine worldview rather than random silliness. He's the show's best argument for comic obliviousness.
