Hilda Suarez

Hilda is Betty's older sister, a Queens beautician raising her son Justin while juggling an on-again romance with his father, Santos. Glamorous where Betty is practical, she runs her own salon chair with pride and flair, fiercely loyal to family and quick to defend Betty against anyone who underestimates her.

Ana Ortiz gives Hilda a warmth that never curdles into saccharine; she's vain about her looks and unapologetic about wanting nice things, yet completely unguarded when it comes to protecting her sister or her son. The show lets her be glossy and grounded at once, and Ortiz sells both halves without strain.
