Hershel Greene

Hershel Greene is a widowed farmer and former veterinarian whose land becomes a refuge for Rick's group. Devout and stubborn, he clings to the belief that the infected are still sick people who might be cured, not monsters to be destroyed, and he runs his farm and family by that same quiet, unshakeable faith.

Scott Wilson plays conviction without sanctimony, so Hershel's faith feels earned rather than naive even when the story proves him wrong. The character gives the show its first real argument about what survival should cost morally, and Wilson's weathered calm makes a man of scripture and farm chores feel like the toughest person in the room.
