He's fiercely proud of his career-track bureaucrat status, competitive about limbo, and quick to remind everyone of the proper forms and procedures, even as chaos erupts around him daily.

LaMarr plays him with a clipped, precise cadence that turns civil-service jargon into music, especially when Hermes slips into limbo-dancing triumph or wounded professional pride. The joke of a man who finds genuine transcendence in filing systems could be one-note, but the writing keeps giving him competence, dignity, and an unexpectedly warm family life underneath the red tape.
