Hattie MacDoogal

Hattie MacDoogal is one of New New York's stock elderly citizens, popping up in crowds and street scenes with the dazed, cheerful obliviousness of someone who has been old and confused since long before the thirty-first century. She wants little beyond getting through her day, and delivers her odd asides without noticing how strange the world around her has become.

She's a background gag elevated by voice work: Tress MacNeille gives her a quavering, sweetly clueless delivery that makes even a single throwaway line land. Futurama fills its margins with characters like this, and Hattie's brief, deadpan non-sequiturs are the kind of detail that reward viewers paying attention to the corners of the frame.
