Hastings Ruckle

Hastings Ruckle is one of the rough-edged kids Coach Taylor inherits when he takes over the struggling East Dillon Lions. He's a lineman with a hard home life and a harder shell, quick to bristle at authority, slow to trust that anyone on this new coaching staff actually wants him to succeed.

He's part of the show's larger argument that football can be a lifeline for kids the system has already written off, and Grey Damon plays him with a wary, coiled physicality that never asks for sympathy. The character works because the show refuses to flatten him into an inspirational arc — he's prickly and real, and that's what makes small gains feel earned.
