Harry Crane

Harry Crane is one of the junior admen at Sterling Cooper, a married account man who is affable, a little clumsy, and eager to be liked. He is more comfortable talking about television and baseball than clients, and he trails after the sharper men in the office hoping some of their polish will rub off.

Rich Sommer plays him as the guy everyone half-forgets is in the room, which becomes the joke and eventually the point: Harry stumbles into running television, a job nobody respected until it mattered, and the show uses his mediocrity as a running commentary on ambition without talent. He is funny precisely because he never quite realizes how he looks.
