Harold Weir

Harold Weir is Lindsay and Sam's father, a furniture salesman with a steady paycheck and steadier certainties, holding forth on discipline, work ethic, and the wisdom of buying whole life insurance. He wants his kids safe, conventional, and home by curfew, and he cannot fathom why his straight-A daughter has started wearing an army jacket and hanging around burnouts.

Joe Flaherty plays him for real rather than for laughs, so the sitcom-dad bluster keeps curdling into something sadder and more recognizable: a man watching his children become strangers and having no tools but lectures and rules. The show lets him be wrong constantly without ever making him a joke, which is rarer than it sounds.
