Hank Hill

Hank Hill sells propane and propane accessories in Arlen, Texas, and takes both very seriously. A devoted husband and father, he's a man of quiet routine — beer in the alley with the neighbors, a suspicion of anything newfangled, a discomfort with emotion he can't quite mask. He wants order, decency, and a well-mowed lawn.

Mike Judge gives him that flat, strangled nasal delivery that turns simple frustration into comedy, but the writing never lets him become a punchline of pure squareness. Hank's rigid conservatism keeps bending, awkwardly, toward love for his strange, sensitive son — and that tension between principle and tenderness is where the show finds its heart.
