Halbrand

In the Days before days, Sauron was corrupted by Melkor (later named Morgoth) to betray the Valar and serve him. He served as Morgoth's chief lieutenant throughout the First Age. After Morgoth's ousting by the Valar at the end of the First Age, Sauron went into hiding out of pride and shame. To the Sindar of Beleriand, Sauron was known as Gorthaur in the First Age.
