Gwen Dawson

Gwen is a housemaid at Downton, dutiful and quick with her hands but privately restless. She dreams of a life beyond service, secretly teaching herself typing and shorthand at night. Careful to keep up appearances with the other staff, she's polite, hopeful, and quietly determined to become something the household doesn't expect of her.

Gwen gives the downstairs half of the show its clearest note of aspiration, a servant who wants a future rather than just a place. Rose Leslie plays her with warmth and nerve in equal measure, so her ambition never feels like a plot device — it feels like the most natural thing in the world for a smart girl to want more.
