Character

Gus

Gus in Futurama (1999), played by Billy West.

Gus turns up as one of the many small, odd faces populating Futurama's future New New York — the kind of one-scene or recurring bit player the show slots in without fanfare, doing some ordinary bureaucratic or workaday job made absurd by the setting around him.

The joy here is Billy West's range: he voices half the regular cast, and a minor figure like Gus is where that elasticity shows plainest, a quick vocal sketch dropped into the background that still comes out fully formed, funny, and distinct from everyone else he's playing that same episode.

Gus is a hobo, often hanging out at Bumbase Alpha. Gus was senator in the Earth government. While a senator, he ate at a restaurant owned by Helmut Spargle. He is often seen alongside his friend and fellow hobo, Dandy Jim.
