Gretchen Cutler

Gretchen Cutler is a music publicist who steals a wedding gift and goes home with the groomsman out of sheer bored recklessness. She's funny, self-sabotaging, and allergic to sincerity, treating emotional attachment like a trap to be avoided at all costs while insisting she's fine.

Aya Cash plays Gretchen's charm and her damage as the same muscle, never softening the ugly parts to make her likable. The show lets her be genuinely selfish and cruel without punishing her for it narratively, which is rarer than it sounds, and Cash finds the aching person underneath the jokes without ever announcing her.
