Gon Freecss

Gon Freecss is a boy from Whale Island chasing his father's old profession, believing that becoming a Hunter is the surest way to eventually find him. He's cheerful, blunt, and startlingly direct, treating danger and strangers alike with the same open curiosity. His goodwill is genuine, but so is his stubbornness.

Megumi Han's performance keeps Gon's warmth from ever curdling into naivety played for laughs; there's real steel under the friendliness. The writing uses his simplicity as a lens, letting a boy who takes fairness and effort at face value expose how cruel and complicated the adult world around him actually is.
